Step-by-Step Recipe
Step 1: Marinating the Jackfruit
Cut the baby jackfruit into bite-sized pieces and wash it thoroughly.
In a bowl, mix the jackfruit with coriander powder, garam masala, chili powder, salt, mint leaves, coriander leaves, ginger-garlic paste, lime juice, and turmeric.
Let it marinate for 15-30 minutes to absorb the flavors.
Step 2: Preparing the Rice
Boil 1 cup basmati rice in water for 10 minutes. The rice should be partially cooked (not too soft) since it will cook further in dum.
Drain and keep aside.
Step 3: Making the Biryani Gravy
Heat oil or ghee in a pressure cooker.
Sauté sliced onions until golden brown.
Add chopped tomatoes and cook until soft.
Mix in biryani masala, red chili powder, and salt.
Add the marinated jackfruit to the gravy and mix well.
Step 4: Cooking the Jackfruit
Add a little water to the mixture.
Close the lid and pressure cook for 6 whistles until the jackfruit is tender.
Step 5: Layering & Dum Cooking
In a large pot or dum vessel, layer the cooked jackfruit gravy and boiled rice.
Cover and cook on low heat (dum cook) for 10 minutes.
Once done, gently mix the biryani without breaking the rice.
Serving Suggestions
Serve hot with raita, pickle, or a side of papad.
A squeeze of fresh lime on top enhances the flavor!
